What is Brazilian Cherry:

Brazilian cherry is actually a misnomer.  The species Hymenaea courbaril (local name: Jatoba or Guapinol) is a tree that grows in Central and South America.  It is a hardwood and is used for furniture, flooring and cabinetry, though it is not a cherry tree.  Other names for the Jatoba include: Brazilian Copal, Souther American Locust and of course Brazilian Cherry.   The tree was popularized in the film Jurassic park, it produces a sticky resin that turns to hard amber over millions of years.  The tree has in fact helped scientists understand prehistoric earth.  (Read more about Hymenaea courbaril on Wikipedia)

Not to be confused with Cherry Wood:

Brazilian cherry is not to be confused with North American Cherry woods.
